SIP Debited but Units Not Allotted: What Should You Do?

If your SIP amount is debited but units are missing, check the order's expected completion date and the fund house's transaction record. A bank debit, unit allotment and an app update are separate events. Contact official support if the expected date has passed or the records disagree.

The short answer

If your SIP amount is debited but units are missing, check the order's expected completion date and the fund house's transaction record. A bank debit, unit allotment and an app update are separate events. Contact official support if the expected date has passed or the records disagree.

What should you do if your SIP is debited but units are not allotted?

Check the order’s expected completion date, then compare the bank debit with the fund house’s transaction record. If the expected date has passed, the order is marked rejected, or the records conflict, contact official support with the transaction details.

Avoid making a second payment just to make the dashboard look right. The first purchase may still be processing, and both could go through.

An SIP is a systematic investment plan for recurring mutual fund purchases. Each instalment has its own payment and allotment record, so check the missing instalment rather than only the SIP’s overall “active” status.

Why are bank debit, allotment and app display different?

A bank debit records money leaving your account, while allotment records the mutual fund units purchased. The platform’s dashboard is a view of those records and may not update at the same moment.

Roz Invest’s “three-record check” is a way to separate these events:

Record What to look for What it does not establish by itself
Bank transaction Debit amount, date and payment reference Whether the fund received usable money and allotted units
Fund house or holding-account record Scheme, transaction, units and applicable NAV Whether the investing app has refreshed its display
App order details Status, expected completion date and order reference Final ownership merely because the SIP instruction is active

AMFI’s applicable-NAV guidance, effective 1 February 2021 and accessed 21 September 2026, explains that purchases, including SIPs, depend on money becoming available to the fund under the relevant cut-off rules. Bank and payment-processing delays can therefore matter after a debit.

How long should you wait before contacting support?

Use the expected completion date for your particular order, not a fixed number copied from another app. Contact support when that date passes; raise an unexpected debit or a rejected order promptly instead of assuming it is a normal delay.

For context, Groww’s SIP-order help page, accessed 21 September 2026, says its orders usually complete in three to four business days depending on the payment method. It directs users to the order’s expected date and support if completion is overdue. This is Groww’s guidance, not a universal regulatory allotment deadline.

Count relevant business days, with scheme and banking holidays in mind. If the platform gives no expected date, ask for one. “Still processing” is not a useful answer indefinitely.

Where can you check whether units were actually allotted?

Look for the specific purchase in the fund house’s official confirmation or transaction statement, using the same scheme, plan, option and account details. If units are held in demat form, also check the relevant depository or broker holding and transaction records.

The asset management company, or AMC, is the fund house. A registrar and transfer agent, or RTA, helps maintain investor records; the AMC can identify the relevant RTA and official contact route.

MFCentral, a CAMS and KFintech investor-services platform, describes consolidated portfolio access on its website, accessed 21 September 2026. It is an additional cross-check for supported holdings, not a promise that a just-debited instalment will appear instantly. An older consolidated account statement may predate the missing purchase.

Check the exact instalment amount and date. A previous month’s units, another folio or a similarly named fund do not confirm the transaction you are tracing.

What does each combination of records tell you?

The combination tells you which question to ask next; it does not prove the cause without confirmation from the responsible provider. Keep the purchase reference attached to every follow-up so support can trace the same transaction.

What you find Useful next action
Bank debit; order still within its expected processing window Save the reference and recheck against the stated date
Bank debit; expected date passed; no official allotment record Ask the platform and AMC to trace payment receipt and purchase status
Official allotment confirmed; app holding missing Ask the platform to reconcile the dashboard with the confirmed transaction
Order rejected after debit Obtain the rejection reason and refund reference or status
App says complete; AMC cannot locate the purchase Ask for the folio or demat details, unit quantity and official allotment confirmation

Suppose ₹5,000 leaves your bank on Monday and the dashboard still shows “processing” on Wednesday. If the AMC confirms the corresponding allotment, the next question concerns the display. If there is no confirmation and the expected completion date has passed, the next question concerns payment and allotment. The same screen message can require different follow-up.

Which NAV applies if the units appear later?

The date units appear in the app does not by itself set the net asset value, or NAV, used for your purchase. The applicable NAV follows valid-transaction and fund-availability rules for the scheme.

An app update on Friday could display units allotted using an earlier applicable NAV. A Monday debit could also lead to a later NAV if the required money was available later. Ask for the official allotment and funds-receipt details rather than inferring the price from the dashboard timestamp.

The separate guide to mutual fund NAV cut-off times explains the pricing rules. Here, the task is to establish where your order stands.

What should you send to the platform or fund house?

Send enough information to identify the purchase and ask for a specific status, reference and next date. Use the provider’s verified app or website support channel, and share sensitive documents only through its secure process.

You can adapt this message:

My SIP instalment of ₹[amount] was debited on [date]. The order reference is [reference], for [scheme, plan and option]. The expected completion date was [date]. Please confirm whether the payment was received, whether units were allotted and the applicable NAV, or whether the order was rejected. If a refund is due, please provide its status, reference and expected credit date. Please share a complaint ticket number.

Keep the bank reference, debit proof and official correspondence. Redact unrelated transactions. Never post your full PAN, bank account or folio details publicly, and never share an OTP, PIN or password with someone offering to “release” units.

What if the purchase was rejected or the debit failed?

A rejected purchase after a debit needs a reason and a traceable refund status; a failed debit is a different issue. Confirm which happened before changing the SIP or placing another order.

If support identifies a know-your-customer problem, check what your mutual fund KYC status means. Do not assume KYC is the cause simply because a payment is delayed.

For a debit that never succeeded, use the missed-SIP-payment guide. For money already debited, ask when and how it will be reconciled or returned. A failed order should not be treated as resolved until the records or bank credit support that conclusion.

When should you escalate an unresolved complaint?

Use the platform’s and fund house’s official grievance channels first, retaining the complaint reference and response. If an eligible securities-market complaint remains unresolved, check SEBI’s SCORES process; a bank-payment issue may instead require the bank’s grievance route.

SEBI’s SCORES FAQs, accessed 21 September 2026, explain the platform’s scope and exclude matters that belong to other regulators. SCORES facilitates grievance redressal; it does not guarantee an immediate refund or decide every dispute.

A missing entry in an app is not by itself evidence that your investment has vanished. Establish the official record, ask who owns the next action, and get a date for that action. For the separate concern of a platform closing, read what happens if a mutual fund app shuts down.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my SIP amount deducted but no units are showing?

Payment processing, unit allotment and the app's display update can happen at different times. Check the expected completion date and the fund house's transaction record. The bank debit alone does not identify which stage is pending.

How many days does SIP unit allotment take?

There is no single app-completion timeline for every payment route and scheme. Groww's support guidance says its SIP orders usually complete in 3 to 4 business days, depending on payment method. Use your own order's expected date and contact official support if it is overdue.

Will I get the NAV of the date my SIP was debited?

Not necessarily. The applicable NAV depends on receipt of a valid transaction and availability of money to the scheme under its cut-off rules. The bank debit date or the date units appear in an app does not by itself determine the NAV.

Should I invest again if my first SIP is still processing?

Do not place a replacement order merely because the first order is missing from the dashboard. Confirm whether the original purchase will be allotted, rejected or refunded. Otherwise both orders may be processed and you may invest more than intended.

What if the fund house confirms units but my app does not show them?

Match the exact scheme, plan, option, transaction and holding account. If the official record confirms that allotment, ask the platform to reconcile its display. A missing dashboard entry alone is not a reason to redeem, transfer or repurchase the units.

Will a failed SIP order be refunded immediately?

Do not assume an immediate refund. Ask for the rejection reason, refund status, reference and expected bank-credit date. Follow up through the platform, fund house and bank as appropriate if the stated date passes without the money arriving.
